Extending over an area of 3,480 meters, the palace was a gathering place for many high-ranking people in the last century, especially in the 1930s and 1940s, but is now a national museum, where it was purchased by the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt for 13 million books and converted into a museum at the beginning of the first decade of this century, where it opened its doors to the public in September 2002, presenting more than 1,800 pieces from different eras, including Pharaonic, Ptolemaic, Roman, Byzantine and Islamic.
