Facts about the tomb of Pabasa:
- Tomb number = TT279.
- The tomb was dug at the foot of the mountain adjacent to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut.
- The granite sarcophagus of Pabasa was transferred to the Kelvingrove Art Museum, Glasgow, Scotland.
Who is Pabasa?
Pabasa is considered one of the most important nobles of the 26th Pharaonic dynasty, where he held several important positions:
1-The advisor of King Psametic I “Egyptian Pharaohs kings“.
2- The high priest of the gods Amon Ra and Thoth.
3- The head of the palace of the High Priestess of Amon Queen Nitocrisse I.
Inscriptions and reliefs in the tomb of Pabasa:
The tomb contains depictions recording daily life as well as scenes of bee breeding in ancient Egyptian civilization.
You will also see scenes of Pabasa with members of his family as well as scenes that depict him practicing the rites and praying before the gods.
The interior plan of Pabasa’s tomb:
The tomb is engraved in the rock base, and it begins with stairs that lead to a brick portico and then inscriptions in ancient Egyptian language in hieroglyphic writing and then stairs of 4 meters that descend to the burial chamber.
You will see on the walls of the corridor descending the scenes of the funeral of Pabasa to the presence of the important figures of the state during the last pilgrimage to Abydos before the burial with the presence of the funerary deities. The texts and scenes show Thor Pa Khepeche the son of Pabasa practicing the traditional rites of his father’s burial.
On the lintel of the tomb gate from the inside you will see scenes depicting Pabasa and Queen Nitocrisse I in front of the gods Ra Hor Akhti and Osiris with the royal cartouches of the names of King Psametic I and his daughter Queen Nitocrisse.
The Hall of the Sun or the Open-Air Courtyard of the Sun:
In this courtyard you will find 3 square pillars decorated with scenes of everyday life such as the scene of the preparation of the funerary bed for the use of the deceased during his eternal life in the afterlife, the preparation of fish and the hunting of birds with the boomerang, traditional scenes in the culture of Ancient Egypt.
The burial chamber:
Scenes from the daily life of the ancient Egyptians adorn the walls of the burial chamber of Pabasa such as scenes of bee breeding, the cultivation of vines as well as fruit picking accompanied by funerary texts in hieroglyphics for Pabasa.
The tomb includes a room with 8 columns decorated with scenes representing the Egyptian deities but unfortunately, they are in a poor state of conservation.
What is Al–Assassif cemetery?
It is a cemetery that includes a group of tombs belonging to the class of nobles, high priests, and high officials of the time of dynasties 18, 25 and 26 of the history of Ancient Egypt (1550 – 525 BC). J.-C).
The cemetery is located on the west bank of the Nile in the Thebes Necropolis near the Tombs of Draa Abu Al-Naja in Luxor.
