Queen Twosret, the last pharaoh of the Nineteenth Dynasty, is registered in the Manetho Register with the title of Thoris. The Queen ruled Egypt for nearly 7 years, but did not rule independently for only one year. Learn about the life of Queen Twosret below.

Queen Twosret

• Evidence says that Queen Twosret was born in the 13th century BC and died in the year 1189 BC.
• The Queen was buried in Cemetery 14 in the Valley of the Kings.
• The queen married Seti II, the father was Merneptah and the mother “subordinated”.
• Positions held by Amon’s thirteenth wife, as well as Egypt from 1191 until 1188 BC.
• Her reign was not independent, as it was shared between her and Si Ptah for a period of no less than 6 years of her reign, which was only 7 years.
• Her memorial temple was discovered, and a campaign of excavations under the funding of the Egyptian University of Arizona concluded that her temple was completely built during her reign.
• Her royal name is “Set Ra Meri Amun”, which means the daughter of Ra and the lover of Amun.

Queen Sosret’s family

• It is not known when Queen Tost was born, because she is the daughter of King Merneptah and Takhat, so it is also likely that she is the sister of “Amenmisa”.
• It is also likely that she is the second wife of Seti II.
• No children have been identified yet.
• The Queen was found with her husband in the tomb of the Valley of the Kings bearing the name kv56, and a group of objects bearing the title of Ramses II were found.
• It is believed that the ownership of that tomb belongs to the daughter of Seti II, but others believed that it was a cache of the found objects.

Queen Sosret ruled

• After the death of Queen Twosret’s husband, she became the guardian of the throne instead of Si Ptah.
• Si Ptah is the son of Seti II, and thus the son of Twosret’s husband.
• It is said that she ruled Egypt with the help of “Chancellor Bey”, and there is a document numbering 100,000 papers, which indicates that “Bey” was executed by Si Ptah.
• The document comes in the hieroglyphic language, and some say that its source was engraved on a fragment of a vase and contains a set of information, including a statement for workers in Deir al-Madina.
• It is not explained in the document what is the reason for the enmity between us between them.
• Queen Twosret’s rule ended, parallel to the civil war, which led to Si Nakhti’s seizure of power, who later became the founder of the Twentieth Dynasty.
