Tomb of King Ramesses III
• Ramses III took power from 1186 to 1155 BC.
• The tomb was discovered by Giovanni Battisa Belzoni in the period between 1816 and 1819 AD.
• Cemetery No. 11, known internationally as KV11, is a privately-owned cemetery.
• The construction of that cemetery began according to the orders of King Set Nakht, and work was stopped due to the penetration of the neighboring tomb of King Amenemsa.
• But Set Nakht was buried after that in Cemetery No. 14.
• When Ramses III took over, he completed the excavation of the tomb, but changed the design of the tomb so that it came in a straight axis, in order to avoid any damage to the side tomb.
• The cemetery has been opened since ancient times, and the cemetery was mentioned in Bruce’s cemetery, in reference to James Bruce, who entered the cemetery in 1768 AD.
• The cemetery is also called the Guitarists’ Cemetery due to the presence of a group of engravings of two guitarists.
• So far the cemetery is still preserving the beauty of the inscriptions, which were used in a group of bright colors.
Inside the tomb of Ramses III
• Visitors enter the tomb of Ramses III through three entrances.
• Upon entering the cemetery, you will find in the middle the main entrance corridor, which comes down a slope to the bottom of the mountain with a series of inclined steps.
• Below is the pillared hall in addition to the burial room.
• Archaeologists say that this cemetery may have been built in three stages, the first part of which comes with an entrance and a small cemetery.
• It is said that the workers continued to build and expand that cemetery until it became a large royal cemetery as it is now.
• There is also another set of side rooms inside the cemetery, which branch off from the first and second corridors of the cemetery.
• Among the inscriptions inside the tomb are inscriptions of the sun disk, which is surrounded by a scarab, and another inscription appears of the king in front of the god Ra.
• There is also a portion of the Song of Ra which is used to praise Ra, and comes along the wall.
• There is also another set of inscriptions that show the daily features of the ancient Egyptians.
• Where some inscriptions related to the professions of the ancient Egyptians, including the professions of bakers and cooks, and what they did in the past.
• Among the professions that were drawn in the cemetery is the leather industry, and the workers were photographed while practicing that profession.
• In addition, there are a group of natural images found in the ceiling of the tomb, and there are also approximately 74 images of the god Amun, the sun god.
• A group of texts dating back to the Book of the Dead were engraved, in addition to drawings of the gods Isis and Nephthys, as well as Anubis.
