Who is Shuroy?

Shuroy is a priest in Karnak Temple of Amon and served as the leader of the sacred incense bearers of the Temple of Amon Ra during the 19th Dynasty.

The tomb is designed under the plan of the shape of the letter  T, where the architectural design of the tomb contains  a vestibule, a small room, and a burial chamber.

The inscriptions and reliefs in the Tomb of Shuroy:  

  • Pharaonic inscriptions were drawn on the walls quickly and many of them are incomplete, with most inscriptions with the red ink having no detail in addition to the use of the blue ink.
  • You will see an inscription on the left wall in the vestibule as extracts from the Book of Gates, where the priest Shuroy and his wife are standing in front of the king and queen but without cartouches explaining the name of the Pharaonic king.
  • There is an inscription of the priest Shuroy on the left wall of the hall kneeling in front of the Goddess Hathor in the western mountain.
  • On the right wall of the vestibule, you will see an inscription of the god Thoth and a group of ancient Egyptian gods Osiris, Isis and Nephtis at the burial of the mummy of the owner of the tomb.
  • Inside a niche you will see on the wall’s inscriptions of a group of women and a squatting man and on the walls on the right you will find drawings of the priest Shuroy.
  • You will see an inscription of the priest Shuroy with his wife with a group of ancient Egyptian gods.
  • You will see the ceiling of the first room which contains geometric designs in distinctive colors such as white, gold, and black.
  • There are texts on the walls of the book of Gates.
  • The walls of the second room do not contain much decoration, while the ceiling is colored with the inscription of chess in white and yellow.
  • The inscriptions   in the funerary chamber depict scenes from the funeral procession to bury the deceased as well as inscriptions of a group of people enjoying music and dance parties.
  • There is an inscription that tells the daily life of families and banquets among the ancient Egyptians in addition to a sacred religious inscription, the son of the deceased who is practicing the rite of opening the mouth of the deceased to bring him back to life, as were in  the beliefs of the pharaohs.
