Facts about the Tomb of Nakht:

  • Grave number = TT52
  • The tomb has existed for 3400 years.
  • The tomb dates from the time of the 19th Pharaonic dynasty.
  • Period of life of Nacht = 18th dynasty dated 1401 – 1391 BC
  • The tomb contains 3 small rooms: the front room, the secondary room, and the burial chamber.
  • The tomb opened its doors to visitors on 17 February 2017 after being fully restored by UNESCO and the Egyptian government.
  • The interior plan of the tomb is in the form of a letter T followed by the architectural designs of all the royal tombs in the time of the New Pharaonic Empire.

Who is Nakht?

Nakht was an important nobleman in the ancient Egyptian government and was responsible for the vines and cultivation of grapes as well as the mastery of astronomy.

  3. A sculpture with a relative engraved on the west wall while listening to a group and dancing.

The interior plan of the tomb of Nakht:  

The tomb begins from the entrance down, a large hall, then along corridor and then a room with a statue of Nakht.

The First Room:

On the left wall, you will see scenes of Nakht and his wife pouring oils with his supervision of agricultural work, then an inscription of gods and ancient religious beliefs in the form of humans, where the goddess Nut symbolizes the Pharaohs by putting a tree on the  heads of human beings.

You will see on the right wall an inscription of a group of ancient Egyptians gathering for a food party and there is a man playing music and a group of talking girls.

Under the first inscription is another inscription of a group of men listening to a group of 3 girls, where the group consists of an oud player, the second plays the harp and the third plays the flute.

You will see drawings of Nakht with his wife sitting with a small cat eating a fish.

The famous scene of the blind harpist – Tomb of Nakht Musicians:

The inscription of the blind harpist engraved on the walls of the tomb of Nakht is one of the most important scenes that has attracted the attention of tourists from all over the world.

The musician was a blind Old man, but he played in an excellent and unique way that made everyone present listen to him.

Moving forward a little, you will see another inscription on the walls to the right depicting Nakht and his wife pouring oils, and then you will see an inscription of ancient Egyptian farmers harvesting the bunches of grapes and then pressing it through a small basin with a group of jars “jars” during the making of the wine.

Another inscription under this inscription is the way in which fishing operations of the Pharaonic civilization were conducted by setting up a bird trap.

You will see distinctive scenes of Nakht riding a small pink-shaped boat fishing from the lake using a harpoon  and another inscription  of  Nakht  hunting birds with a  boomerang as well as the presence of two women and his son holding a stick.

The secondary room:

The design of the room is square in the form of a box and contains a water well, then the burial chamber to bury the mummy of Nakht.

A statue of Nakht, a kneeling position, was found holding a plaque with religious texts on it to worship the God Ra, unfortunately the statue was lost during its transport to Britain following the warship’s chambers in the ocean in 1915.
