UNESCO

Who is the current head of UNESCO?

It had been chaired for a while now by Frenchwoman Audrey Azoulay, after her landslide victory in the elections that were held in 2017.
Since she had obtained 30 votes, she was significantly ahead of the Qatari candidate in the same position with her, Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al-Kuwari, but that was by only two votes.

goals of UNESCO

● The organization’s main goal is to succeed in contributing to the development or establishment of both peace and security in the world by raising the level of cooperation between all countries around the world in various fields of education and even culture.
● Its goal is to establish universal respect for tolerance, justice, success in the rule of law, the advancement of human rights, and the knowledge of principles pertaining to fundamental freedom.

formation of UNESCO

● Unesco is affiliated with 195 countries so far, and its main and main headquarters are located so far in Paris. However, UNESCO also has more than nearly 50 offices and at the same time has several teaching institutes located around the world.
● We thought that the organization had five basic targeted educational programmes, which are the Education Program, each of the natural sciences, the humanities and even the social and cultural sciences, and the special sciences in the areas of communication and media.

History of UNESCO

● In fact, that organization, both in the past and in the present, was highly controversial and has also continued over time.
● Whereas, during the seventies and eighties, Western countries, especially the United States of America, and Britain also believed that this organization was exploited and targeted by the Communists, and targeted by third world countries as well, to attack the West.
● This is what prompted that large organization to develop itself and make a great plan that was called at the time the balm of the new world order.
● The imposition of that plan was to stop all those alleged lies and remove all the misinformation that was rude and spread before about the issue of the development processes of the countries of the world.
● But after that, the West had rejected that important plan on the pretext that they had adopted it only as an attempt by third world countries as well, along with communist countries, to destroy media freedom.
● Accordingly, America made its final decision to withdraw from the organization from UNESCO in 1984 AD, and then Britain immediately after or followed it, and that was in 1985 AD.

UNESCO missions

● One of the tasks of UNESCO in the past was to announce the existence of a large list of sites of all forms of cultural heritage around the world.
● These sites were some of the historical sites or other natural sites, and then the responsibility to protect them and keep them as intact as possible, far from damage, was something that was demanded by all the people of the international community, but at that time it was not the task of that global organization to protect these places.
● But every year, this large organization also strives on its way to advance freedom of expression and then express media freedom, given that the two are considered among the most important and simplest principles of basic human rights.
● You are interested in this through the work of the International Day for Media Freedom, and this global event takes place on the third of May of each year in a very organized manner.
● This UNESCO event is held to celebrate and focus on the great importance of media freedom as a very important and fundamental principle for any healthy society or a free and democratic society.
● Just as Britain had returned to that organization in 1997, and with it the United States returned under the periods of 2003.
● But it came back again and the United States withdrew, and that was in October of 2017 from UNESCO, as it accused the organization of spreading hatred, enmity, and a great deal of prejudice against.
