Your visite  begins  by passing on  a ramp that leads you to a room on two sides with a vaulted cornice and to the right of the entrance you will find drawings of Queen Nefertari worshipping Osiris and Anubis as well as the four  sons of Horus, then to the left of the entrance you will find the queen’s double (ka).

You will find the drawings of the four sons of  Horus above the door that directs you to the second  corridor. To  the right of the door we find the goddess Neith as she receives Queen Nefertari and on the other side of the drawings a representation of the goddess Selket.

So you arrive at a door  that directs you to the small room, you will find drawings and inscriptions of the goddess Maat the goddess of truth  among  the  Ancient Egyptians,  further  to the right a drawing of the sun as it sets and  it  is painted in the form of a man with a ram’s head, where it was an ancient belief that here it is the place of Osiris, Isis and Nephtis.

You’ll also find pharaonic drawings of Queen Nefertari worshipping the seven sacred cows, the bull and the oars of the four heavens, as well as inscriptions to the right and left of the walls in the first chamber.

The first Chamber:

When you leave the first hall, you will find stairs with unique drawings and inscriptions everywhere, you will see on the left drawings of Queen Nefertari offering a glass of wine and another cup of milk to the goddess Isis and sitting behind her Nephtis, and other drawings of Queen Nefertari offering a glass of wine to the goddess Hathor and behind her the goddess Selket  and at the end of the drawing is  the goddess Maat

The funeral chamber:

The burial chamber contains a pharaonic inscription of the book of the Gates as well as a large pit to add the royal sarcophagus by stairwell.

The burial chamber contains 3 additional rooms on the sides of the room, where you will see 4 columns in two rows containing an inscription of Queen Nefertari  with the ancient Egyptian gods.

At the end of your journey, we enter the burial chamber of Queen Nefertari, where you will find 4 square-shaped columns in the middle of a large space to place the coffin, and when you walk a little, you will find two side rooms directing you to the living room from right and left as well as another room that you will find open in the middle of the back wall of the burial chamber.

Paintings of Tomb of Nefertari:

The tomb of Queen  Nefertari is  renowned for its beautiful pharaonic drawings. On the four columns, where  there are inscriptions depicting the priest Ion Mut-ef, who plays the role of Horus who supports the back of his mother  Isis,Osiris and the queen embraced by Hathor and Isis, while the other drawings depict buildings that existed in the other world after the time guarded by the return and the magical spells that protected Queen Nefertari on her way to her eternal headquarters, according to ancient Egyptian beliefs.

The other room on the left includes the South and North, painted in the shape of snakes, and will find on the wall pleas of Imesty and Doua Mout-ef as they prepare a dwelling for Queen Nefertari in the eternal world.

On the right wall of the room you will find a drawing of the sons of  Horus and on the back wall of the drawings of the names and titles of the queen with a representation of the God Thoth on the column.

On the left you will find inscriptions of Queen Nefertari in front of Hathor the goddess cow, then in front of a drawing by Anubis and another drawing on the back wall of the winged gods, but over time, the inscriptions on this side have faded as happened in the back room and there are no more clear inscriptions left.

  • Queen Nefertari was the favorite wife of King Ramses II, calling him love phrases such that she was the person for whom the sun rises.
  • He built The Temple of Hathor of Queen Nefertari to worship her as a deity.
  • He gave  his orders to make  murals in the Valley of the Queens.
  • He carved  statues of the queen in the small and large temple of Abu Simbel as a gesture of  gratitude.

What were the reasons for the closure of the Queen’s Tomb?  

The tomb was discovered in 1904 and after some time, archaeologists discovered that the paintings in the tomb were damaged  due to:

  1. The formation of saltpeter on paintings.
  2. Water falls between the walls and has bacterial growth.
  3. Humidity of the air from the  breathing of visitors.

The tomb was completely closed in 1950.

In 1986, the Egyptian government, represented by the Ministry of Antiquities and the Paul Getty Institute, agreed to restore the paintings in the royal tomb.

The team in charge of restoration work began in 1988 and was completed in 1992.

The Queen’s Tomb was opened in 2003 to only 150 visitors a day at most, to save the paintings from moisture, in 2006 the Egyptian government decided to completely close the tomb, and then in 2019, issued a high ticket price of about 1400 Egyptian pounds for those who wish to visit it.
