Facts about The Tomb of Amenhotep III:

  1. Cemetery number = WV 22.
  2. The mummy of King Amenhotep IIIEgyptian Pharaohs kings” was discovered in 1881 AD buried in a cemetery in Deir El Bahari of the KV 35 cemetery in Luxor.
  3. The cemetery was completely stolen by grave robbers during the period of weakness of the Pharaonic civilization.
  4. Deposits were found on the base of the cemetery dating from the time of King Thutmose IV, father of King Amenhotep III.
  5. The king’s coffin was stolen from the burial chamber and used to bury the mummy of another Pharaonic king, and there was no longer a 3-meter-long red granite brood.

Who is the discoverer of the tomb of Amenhotep III?

The tomb was discovered in 1799 by archaeologist Prosper Jollois and Edouard de Villiers du Terrage.

The cemetery contains two burial halls for the king’s wives, Queen Tyi, and Queen Sitamon, “Daughters of King Amenhotep III“, next to the king’s main room, each room covered with a stone column and a small side room.

The burial chamber does not contain decorations or inscriptions on the walls.

  2. The waiting room contains inscriptions and scenes of the king with a group of ancient Egyptian gods.
  3. The well column room is no frills.
  4. A room with undecorated columns.

  7. The burial chamber is decorated with an inscription from scenes from the Book of Imy Dwat.

Your visit inside the Pharaonic cemetery begins with a sloping corridor 36 meters below and 14 meters below the level of the Valley of the Kings, all the corridors are no frills.

You will see an inscription on the wall from the beginning of the end of the main entrance to the arrival of the burial chamber with 4 scenes which are:

  1. King Amenhotep III kisses the goddess Hathor with a feather in her right hand and a long baton in her left hand.
  2. An inscription of the king who receives the sign of life “Ankh” from the God Anubis and the God of Osiris.

The right wall contains scenes of King Amenhotep III with his father, King Thutmose IV, with the goddess Nout and three other scenes of the king with the god Anubis, the gods of the West and the god of Osiris.

Mummy of King Amenhotep III:

The Pharaonic tombs of the Valley of the Kings were looted, and during the reign of the 21st Pharaonic Dynasty, the priests of the Temple of Amun transported the coffin and mummy of King Amenhotep III to the tomb of King Amenhotep II No. KV 35.

The mummy suffered significant damage, especially to the head.

The mummy was analyzed for pain and turned out to be dead because of a series of genetic diseases.
