Stages of discovery of the Solar Boat of Cheops:

In 1954, the famous Egyptian archaeologist Kamal al-Malakh found seven pits, two hatches containing King Cheops’ boats, two queens’ pits and the rest belonging to King Cheops‘ funerary objects, which lasted 10 years.

The second pit was discovered in 1987, when archaeologists were preparing to reinstall and assemble it to exhibit with the boats in the Grand Egyptian MuseumMuseums of Egypt“.

The second pit was found in the eastern tip parallel to the largest pyramid to the south at a distance of 17 meters, with a depth of 5 meters and a length of 31 meters.

At the beginning of the excavation, the workers found that the top of the pit consisted of 41 meters large blocks of wide stones of different shape and weight, each weighing between 15 and 20 tons, and the average weight (4.5 meters for length, width 0.85 meters, height 1.8 meters).

Hieroglyphic inscriptions and drawings were discovered on the stones of the names of the workers who carried stones to the pit, as well as 10 cartouches with the name of King Chephren written on them.

Archaeologist Werner discovered that parts of the pyramid complex were made after the death of King Cheops, but the researcher “Haas: confirms that the history of the stone dates back to the reign of King Cheops and it has therefore been confirmed that the pit was closed during the reign of King Cheops until the time of his death after his reign over Egypt for 13 years.

It was confirmed that the Solar Boat of Cheops was 1224 pieces and was placed in the large pit on 13 layers.

In 2009, the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities collaborated with a group of Japanese researchers from Wasbada University, Tokyo, to examine and excavate parts of the burial enclosure, the entire parts of the boat were initially excavated in 2013, and parts of King Khufu’s (Cheops’) funerary complex are being installed and assembled.

History of Khufu Ship:

The boat was found in a very deep pit on the south side of the Great Pyramid covered with about 40 huge limestone blocks, where Solar Boat of Cheops are considered the feet of boats in human history, and are made of cedar wood.

The boat was designed to be used by King Cheops on his journey to the other world after his death with the sun god Ra.

The solar boats were first discovered in 1954 at the base of the Great Pyramid of Giza, Egypt, by the Egyptian archaeologist Kamal al-Malakh, the number of pieces of the boat was 1,224 pieces with large quantities of carpets and other tools of the boat, missing no part.

The first solar boats were reinstalled, reaching a length of 43.55 meters, 5 meters in the foreground and 7 meters in the back, named after the solar boat and named the boat of Cheops.

As the spirit of the king climbs in this boat to move to the other world, where the daily journey of the sun in the sky is inspired by the legends that incorporated King Cheops with the sun, where the texts describe the sunrise on the distant eastern bank where a band of monkeys greet it as soon as it rises above the water.

If these animals were awake to dance at sunrise, monkeys were also sacred to the ancient Egyptians. Ra then gets on his day boat, which makes him sail in the sky until the evening. He then moves from his day boat to his night boat, which makes him sail in the underworld, before sunrise again a new day.

The cult of the sun spread to northern Egypt during the reign of Pharaoh Cheops; Pharaoh Kings began to call themselves sons of Ra since the era of Chephren.

This led the Egyptians to believe that the basis of life was the sun, to which spirits return, which also led them to build their tombs depicted in The Pyramids of Giza of this region west of the Nile.

The legend of the funerary boats – The Boat of Cheops:

The ancient Egyptians believed that funerary boats were used to restore other life after death from the holy places known as the Spirit of the Gods.

Legend has it that the God Ra is a child of the sunrise “Kheperi” and then becomes a young and mature man at noon “Ra” and then becomes an old man after sunset in the evening “Atum”, where Ra the actor climbs on the walls of the temples with a solar disk and crosses the river until he ascends to heaven, then comes at sunset and climbs on the second boat to start the journey in the sky at night to climb.

Archaeologists have discovered inscriptions describing the funerary boat trip of a group of monkeys greeting Ra as soon as he reappears above the water, known to have been one of the sacred animals of the pharaohs.

At the time of the pharaohs, kings were concerned with the worship of the sun, especially the reign of King Cheops in the northern part of Egypt, where he began to call the name of the king by the son of God Ra since the beginning of the era of King Chephren.

There was a worship of the God Ra in northern Egypt during the reign of the Fifth Dynasty in Heliopolis, where Ra presided over the Enead in the name of Amon, but in southern Egypt, the worship of God Amon was dominant.

King AkhenatonEgyptian Pharaohs kings” of the 18th Dynasty united the cult between the north and the south to become the cult of the “solar disk Aten” is the only cult and the only God of all Egyptians, as he thought, King Amenophis IV calling it “Aten” and built the city of Akhetaton to stay away from the confrontation with the priests of Amon in the city of Thebes, where he faced great problems with the priests while applying his ideas.
