Ptolemy IV

Who is Ptolemy IV?

He is the son of the great ruler Ptolemy III, who achieved a significant number of real achievements.
But he was, however, very weak in character, and at that time the actual ruler who managed all the affairs of the country was his mother, Queen Onin.
But despite assuming all the duties of the throne, except for the mother of the ruler, Ptolemy IV, she had expressed her strong dissatisfaction with the wrong behavior of her son in assuming the rule and administration of the country.
Accordingly, she had wanted, after that, to replace his bathing period so that his younger brother in age would take over the throne in his place, and his name was Magas.
But as a result of that thinking that his mother was thinking about for the benefit of the country, his mother was killed and poisoned, not only that, but also killed at the same time a crowd of his brother and uncle.

How was his rule of the country?

In fact, it was during his reign that the Fourth Syrian War broke out, as it took place when the Syrian king at that time, dubbed or known as Antiochis III, attempted repeated operations in order to invade Egypt.
Unfortunately, Egypt had already fallen during his reign and during his reign, and it became the state belonging to the state of Syria, after the army of Antiochius III from Syria succeeded in occupying it.
At that time, all the Egyptian soldiers in Egypt and on its borders revolted against the rule followed by Ptolemy IV in taking charge of the country’s affairs.
Accordingly, a new kingdom had been established within the scope of Upper Egypt and under the special rule of the Egyptian king at that time, who was Hor Ma Sheth or Ala, who was sometimes known as Hor and Nefer, and that was for a period of approximately 20 years, between the year 205 and the year 185 BC.
In fact, the Delta region had separated at that time to be under the rule of a number of revolutionaries and a group of brave soldiers in the Egyptian army, after their victory in the Battle of Rafah.
And that valiant civil war had lasted for many years, until in the end the value of the currency in Egypt had completely fallen.
And at that time, Ptolemy IV had no choice but to seek the help of a group of mercenaries, as it was at that time that Ptolemy IV seemed to have played on that religious card and succeeded greatly in persuading all the priests in the country to cooperate with him.
This was confirmed as he had recorded on the famous Rosetta Stone the extent of his gratitude to all the priests in Egypt.

How was his relationship with Rome during his reign?
In fact, in the early 210s B.C., King Hannibal attacked Italy and nearly destroyed the Roman Empire in Egypt once and for all.
It also destroyed everything that Italian agriculture had been doing in the country’s economy for a decade.
