Panorama October Museum

Located on Salah Salem Street in the heart of Cairo, Egypt, about the historic victory of the Egyptian armed forces over the Israeli army on October 6, 1973.

The panorama is a monument to this victory, which reflects a large 3D fresco of Egyptian forces penetrating the Bar lev Line on the Suez Canal, with an exciting commentary (in Arabic only) recounting the heroic victories of the Egyptian army.

The panorama was built with the help of North Korean artists, reflecting this huge victory, in which the Egyptian armed forces were able to retake parts of Sinai occupied by Israel after the setback of 1967, before being fully restored by the armed forces through negotiations.

About Panorama of the October 6 War

Located in Cairo’s Cairo suburb of Heliopolis, the Panorama of the October War is characterized by circular architecture, the panorama is full of presentations dedicated mainly to schoolchildren, and there are many Israeli weapons, obtained by the Egyptian armed forces during the October 73 War, with a giant screen that rotates slowly giving a panoramic view of the 360-degree murals expressing the victory of the Egyptians in the war.

The panorama was built on 7.5 hectares (about 32 000 square meters) and opened on 5 October 1989 by former Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak.

It is a cylindrical gravel-shaped building molded in the Islamic architectural style with the help of a group of North Korean architects and managed by the Department of Egyptian National Military Museums.

Highlights of the October War Panorama

Many Israeli weapons can be seen, such as the Israeli M60 tank seized by the Egyptian army during the October War.

In addition to the examples of the Egyptian Air Force’s MiG-21, there is also a waiting room, an outdoor area with food stalls and vendors selling souvenirs.

Outside also show a number of military vehicles used in the war, including tanks, planes and weapons belonging to both Egypt and Israel. The panorama itself also contains many weapons, models and inscriptions illustrating the course of the war.

Inside the October War Panorama are two rooms; the first is a movie theater showing a 15-minute documentary about the war, which is translated into 11 languages.

In the second room, visitors sit on a rotating platform to watch a 360-degree war movie showing Egyptian soldiers storming the Bar lev Line on the Suez Canal.
