Ptolemy VIII

Who is Ptolemy VIII?

● Ptolemy VIII, the Macedonian ruler, is the son of the ruler of Ptolemy V, just as his father had previously ruled and assumed the throne in the country from 169 BC. AD in Egypt and continued to rule for a long time.
● Hence, a large and violent revolution had already risen against him in the country, which took place between the years 130-131.
● In that revolution, Ptolemy V fled from the country and left power.
● The great Queen Cleopatra II was the only one to rule and assume the throne in the country during that period, and she was the one who bore the title of Queen of Egypt at the time.
● But despite that, Ptolemy VIII, his son, was able or was able after that quickly to succeed in restoring his kingship, but he had died in the year 116 BC. Then, after his stability, he had married Queen Junir, and she was at that time the queen of a state China, which had agreed to perform Hajj with him against the rule of Queen Cleopatra II.

Assuming power and his struggle with his brother Ptolemy VI

● In fact, the great king Ptolemy VIII was actually the younger brother and brother of Ptolemy VI, who was the one who took over the king of Egypt in the past.
● But he was in spite of those brothers, but they were in constant disagreement with his brother, King Ptolemy VIII, and then a number of different conflicts broke out between them, all of which were over power, which at a certain period of time could lead to the outbreak of civil war in country.
● This happened precisely when the Senate in Egypt decided, by a decisive decision, to start separating Libya from Egypt.
● But he succeeded with his intelligence and resolved this important dispute, uh, of the prisoners, by giving him the rule of the kingdom of Cyrene in the state of Libya, and after that he actually became its king.
● But after a few long years, Ptolemy VIII had claimed, and perhaps his claim was false, that the king of Libya, who was already at that time his brother Ptolemy VI, was trying many and repeated attempts to assassinate him, and then succeeded after that, so he failed to annex Libya to the state of Egypt again.
● Hence, Ptolemy VI had covered his claim with great intelligence, as he had announced by writing a will that in the event of his death, his kingdom and throne would completely devolve to Rome, and the existence of this will was discovered in an inscription located in the city of Cyrene in Libya.
● But it was not implemented and Ptolemy VIII ruled after his brother and took over the rule of Egypt for a period of 54 years, which is considered the longest period in which one of the Ptolemaic kings had ruled on the throne of Egypt.

What was the state of stability in the country during his reign?
In fact, the period of government in which Ptolemy VIII ruled the country is considered one of the most covenants in Egypt in terms of stability and peace. Trade between all the countries of the Mediterranean has flourished.
