In fact, “Jamal al-Din al-Dhahabi’s archaeological house is located in a neighborhood called Hosh Qadam, as it is the area completely branching from al-Mu’izz li Din Allah al-Fatimi Street in Qism al-Darb al-Ahmar area.

This archaeological house was established specifically in the year 1047 AH – 1637 AD approximately by the leader Jamal al-Din al-Dhahabi, the son of Khawaja Nasir al-Din, who was nicknamed in Egypt “Shah Bandar al-Tijjar”, which means he was the chief merchant in the state of Egypt at the time.

The house’s historical significance

● This house is also considered one of the most important and best archaeological facilities in Egypt, as it was filled with a number of inscriptions and a group of distinctive and beautiful Islamic decorations at the same time.
● This luxurious, archaeological house also dates back to the Ottoman era, and it was built already at that time, depending on the architectural style that was taking into account the various Islamic traditions at that time.

● When talking about that house, let me tell you that the house has three luxurious stone facades, and that the first or main entrance leads to that courtyard that used to be in the middle of that house.
● It also has a fountain of water called the Fountain, which was made of marble, but the ground floor of it was used only to make stores and a number of rooms designated for guarding.
● As for that first stage of it, it included the existence of what was called in that era the Salamlek, as well as the Haramlek.
● But when talking about the main hall of that luxurious house, it is actually a floor belonging to a square hall in the north. It has a luxurious floor, but it is low at the same time. It was rough and furnished with a number of colored pieces of marble.
● It has also been covered with a small dome made of wood, and there are iwans on both sides of the floor in that hall.
● Also, there are approximately four doors that open onto that courtyard, and it ascends from them to the three floors of that house, of which all the rooms overlooked the courtyard of that house.

Restoration of the ancient house to receive tourists

● In fact, that luxurious house was included in the plan drawn up by the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as it had a number of different restoration works to succeed in preserving it by locking it from the presence of those harmful dangers.
● Since it was already caused by groundwater at the time, soil injection operations were carried out, and a number of foundations were laid in the house from the inside as well as from the outside.
● However, approximately four years ago, that permanent committee, which monitors and preserves Islamic and Coptic monuments in Egypt, had agreed to allocate that house, called Jamal al-Din al-Dhahabi, temporarily, only for a certain period, to the Syndicate of Archaeologists, and that is, of course, under construction.
