Aquarium Grotto Garden
Khedive Ismail established the Fish Garden or Jabaliya Garden, in the Zamalek area on Jabaliya Street in Giza Governorate, in 1867.
The park, which was run by the Giza Zoo since 1902, repaired 24 basins to display 33 types of Nile fish before the park was officially opened to the public on November 21, 1902.
The total area of the garden, in addition to the group of botanical gardens adjacent to it, is about nine and a half acres.
Fish garden design
The Aquarium Grotto Garden is characterized by a wonderful design, and a distinctive use of building materials, as there are many designs built from Aswan mud mixed with Asromel and red sand, in addition to bricks made from a mixture of Aswan mud and solid supporting materials to create architectural formations in the form of fish gills. the fish.
Which gives a distinctive aesthetic view of the fish garden, and led to the general view of the mountain in the utmost splendor and beauty.
The architectural pattern of the garden is characterized by the fact that it was built in the form of a mountain of monkeys, and therefore some call this garden the name of the mountain garden, but in the end it is a fish garden.
Sections of the fish garden
The garden consists of an entrance with two openings resembling a fish gills opening, behind which is the foyer area, and on the side of the two openings there are two side fins behind which are the four corridors of the garden.
And the garden from the inside is in the form of corridors or cavities inside coral reefs lying in the sea, so if you look at the ceiling of one of the corridors, you will find it as if it was one among other cavities made by the waves.
What is interesting about these designs is that they seem to play melodies when the air passes through them, much like the movement of water in the sea, to make you feel that you are at the bottom of a sea or ocean, with a group of beautiful colorful fish, and even inside its deep caves.
Outside the Aquarium Grotto Garden, there are paths separating separate green areas, which contain rare trees that were specially brought from Madagascar, Australia and Thailand, where the rare forests are characteristic of these areas.
