The Takeyya Mawlawiyya Facts

This famous takia is located on Al-Sayoufiya Street, which is located specifically in the Al-Helmeya district in the heart of Old Cairo.

The date of the establishment of this Mawlawi Tekke

The earliest and closest history of the establishment of such a hospice in the Al-Hilmiya district dates back to the Ottoman era, when it was used or considered a shelter for any individual or person who had no family and therefore were not able in any way to earn money..

Examples of people who lived in that area were widows, elderly people, and an infinite number of poor people and passersby..

But with the insistence of the same idea spreading in the same way that it forgot about the Mawlawi Tekke, whose followers had previously taken that Tekke in the Citadel of Saladin al-Din al-Ayyubi “Salah Al-Din Al-Ayyubi” as a place for remembrance and reading the Qur’an and other Sufi practices that were associated with them..

Description of the Mawlawi Tekke

The facade of the historic Mawlawi Tekke combines both the Ottoman and Mamluk styles in its construction..

This is in terms of rooms, as it contained approximately three halls, the first of which was called the Hall of the Sama Khana or had another name, which is the Dervish Theater, and the second of which was the school called Sunqur al-Saadi, as for the third room of that lodge, it is a relic that is still called the Relic of Yashbak..

The hearing khana or theatre of the dervishes in that lodge

That was the first building, which was dedicated only to the Mawlawi dhikr. That date consisted of a wooden platform, almost circular in shape. In the middle of it was a single circle, but in a color almost the same as the platform at the same time..

It was also surrounded almost by a wooden railing, and this eagle had almost two doors designated only for the entry and exit of the dervishes, before and after they finished or performed that Mawlawi dhikr..

As for the second floor of the Mawlawi Tekke, it was almost an internal staircase, but it was wooden and led to a number of irregular spaces that were designated only for seating for both the public and viewers..

And also at the same time there was a place designated for women to sit. That place was almost closed by a wooden door, and at the same time it was hidden from the crowds of people by the presence of a veil made of roughly shaped wood designed at the same time in an intersecting manner..

Sanqar Al Saadi School

The second section of this Mawlawi lodge is the Sanqar al-Saadi School, and this school is linked to a number of exciting pages in Mawlawi history..

This ancient school was established by Mr. Shams al-Din Sunqur al-Saadi, who was at that time the head of the Sultanate Mamluks and almost forgot about the school in the year 721 AH (1321 AD), as was completely recorded in the written tape located inside the dome in which he was buried in that place..
