Sabil-Kuttab of Qaytbay

The origin and design of that way

● Also, the sabil is still standing in the archaeological Al-Mini Sheikhoun Street, which is directly branching off from Salah El-Din Square in the Citadel.
● In fact, it is a means of self-confidence, independent of itself, and singular, as it is topped by a book of brown color, and this book is only recently available.
● It was also originally built on its own without any book uniting with it or the youth above it, but it was nonetheless dedicated to those who allowed drinking water to be poured only on all people.
● It was also adjacent to that famous Sabil or Sabil Qaitbay, a portico that had a kitchen and a number of toilets, and at the same time there was a basin dedicated only to ablution.
● Also, there was a second floor above the inner hallway in the sabil, but it was intended only for the residence of the person responsible for the place and the resident of the sabil.
● There is also that main door to the place and at the same time one of the windows called the sabil, which was made only for drinking on that eastern front of the place.
● But on the northern front of the second window of the path. There was actually another door to the sabil, but it was located on the side or the southern facade.

What distinguishes this design from others?

● In fact, this important path is clearly distinguished from the rest of the fountains that King Qaitbay built because of the presence of two huge and ancient doors, one of which was located on that eastern facade of the place.
● It is one of the most important of those memorial doors, as there was a triangular arch on the top, but on its sides there were two arches on which were written the founding text of his state with the death of his state, or it was written in the famous and prominent Mamluk script at the same time.
● It was written on it an expression indicating that the king himself ordered its establishment and recorded with it the date and the year for the establishment of the sabil.
● As for the second door to that path, it was only a completely ordinary and simple door, and it was located on the southern side.
● The Qaitbay Sabil is indeed one of the largest, most important, and even the most beautiful fountains in Cairo.

Description of the room for the Sabil-Kuttab of Qaytbay

● The Chamber of Sabil Qaitbay in the north is a square-shaped room and has a somewhat complex structure above its door, which is located on the southern side of the door, and it appears as if it is a wooden filling on which the name of Abu al-Nasr Qaytbay is written on it, may God honor his supporters.
● Also, the salsabil is installed in a recessed interior of a rectangular shape, located on the southern side of Hajar al-Sabil in Cairo. It is a huge and luxurious slab at the same time made of white marble.
● A number of those plant decorations are written on it, including prominent ones from the door, but they are installed and have an inclined shape that was intended in order to facilitate the smooth flow of water over it in the direction from top to bottom, and this is all for the purpose of succeeding in its cooling.
● Also, in that inner courtyard there was a Qaitbay sabil, an ascending staircase that led to and from those stolen houses, but it died. It consisted of only two rooms, and it was not built soon or recently in the modern era so that it would not serve as classrooms for study.
