The history of those ancient tombs, called Anfushi, dates back to the third century BC (about 250 BC), with the presence of the end of that Ptolemaic era and also in the early Roman era.

How to discover that tomb

● These tombs were discovered in the year 1901 AD, when two funerary buildings were discovered in them, each with two tombs.
● Then, after that, the archaeological discoveries of the Anfushi cemetery continued, until it contained a number of funerary buildings, which are five so far.
● There is also a funeral building, but it is sixth, and it has disappeared and has no effect now.
● These tombs are characterized by a basin decorated with beautiful frescoes, which are still in good condition until now.
● Many of them were decorated with alabaster and marble.
● The Anfushi cemetery also includes five other funerary buildings (tombs), but two of them were considered among the most important of these cemeteries in the city of Alexandria. The two cemeteries are also distinguished by the presence of a number of beautiful inscriptions in them, and they are characterized by their wonderful and unique architectural design.

The first funerary building
At the beginning of entering those tombs and on the left of them directly, and that building, you find that it has two tombs, between which there is a large hall, where it is easily reached through a wonderful decorated staircase.

First, the first cemetery

● Where it contains a number of wide seats or carved in a specific shape in the rock from us it is slightly higher than the surface of the earth
● There is another room designated for burial, which is low, and in it there is a coffin made of granite and the door leading from it to the burial chamber, as it belongs in its building to that Pharaonic style.

Second: the second cemetery

● There are two rooms in it, the first of which is rectangular in shape and its decoration appears in the form of alabaster, and this is of the Roman style.
● The first room was also divided into two small rooms, and those rooms were decorated in a coordinated manner, like the decoration of the first room in the first cemetery, which is considered an imitation of that with veined marble.
● And there is an opening in that foyer, which is that funerary building, which leads at the end to a water tank.
The second funerary building is in the Anfushi cemetery
● It is the one that the visitor reaches directly through the presence of a staircase, from which he leads to a large courtyard, to which a number of two tombs open, but each of them has two completely separate rooms..
● And they had painted the edge of the wall with fresco, and it was in the form of long strips, and it was also decorated with a specific shape similar to that of veined marble.
● There are also a number of pharaonic drawings that are decorated in a coordinated manner on some of the walls.

The third funerary building in the Anfushi Tombs

● Many or most of the parts of that ancient building have disappeared, and its stones have already been used to build a number of other buildings.
● And then it all disappeared because there were a number of upper parts in the cabins.
● The design of that building was different from other designs, due to the presence of a small hallway in the space, which was opened directly to the staircase.
● There were also a number of three chambers excavated in a coordinated manner under the ground, instead of these two chambers, which are always used in any cemetery.
● In those first and second rooms of that cemetery, a number of complaints were dug regarding how the dead were buried.

The fourth funerary building

● That building is still not in a good condition until now, and in the past it had a staircase leading from it to a large courtyard, to which a number of one cemetery opens.
● Her first room had a group of remains that belonged to three large terraces, and this indicates that it was a room or a funerary table that was previously carved into the rock.
● To the right of that room was a large hole that contained a water tank.
● However, the second cemetery was a rectangular room, somewhat spacious, and had traces of a rock-built mastaba.
Fifth Funerary Building
● In fact, this fifth building is considered one of the richest of these tombs and this luxurious ancient cemetery, in terms of decorations and even drawings.
● And because the cemetery is also carved into the rock, as it consists of a staircase and with it a patio, some of that is exposed, and four rooms open to it, but they are small.
