Pyramid of Khafre

Design and construction

● This pyramid had already been built over a large area of approximately 215 square metres.
● It had two entrances, one of them on the northern side, and it is the one that still maintains the presence of a large part of its outer cladding, located directly at the top.
● A number of statues made of ancient Egyptian stone, which is the schist stone, were also found in it and within its large hierarchical group, now in the private valley temple.
● Among them was one of the statues, which is one of the most beautiful and luxurious art produced by the name of ancient Egyptian sculpture, but the bowl of the statue is now in the Egyptian Museum, as it is attributed to him, of course, to carving the rock from which it was made, while the Sphinx thundered.
The angles and heights of the pyramid, and the most important interior designs in it
● The pyramid of King Khafra is located southwest of the pyramid of his father, King Khufu.
● As we mentioned, its height is approximately 143.5 meters, and the length of each side is approximately 215.5 meters.
● And the angle of inclination of the pyramid is approximately 53.10 degrees. It is also located directly at ground level.
● And the entrance to the pyramid leads you at the end to a downward corridor. This corridor has a roof made of granite, but its slope angle is approximately 22 degrees.
● This corridor ends with you at a parapet that eventually leads to a horizontal corridor, and then to a ramp corridor that may eventually lead to a small chamber that is mistakenly called the burial chamber.
● It is an empty latent chamber carved into the rock material, and that long vestibule leads to another new rampart that brings you up at the end with a horizontal corridor, this corridor that ends and takes you to the burial chamber.
● And that chamber for burial has a gabled roof that had been built of limestone, but it is almost in the middle of the pyramid specifically. King Khafre called his pyramid the name (the Great).
● The bottom layer of the middle pyramid, which is related to the casing stones, was made of pink granite.
● But the rest of that pyramid was encased in limestone.
● Also, upon carrying out careful examinations of the pyramid, it was found that the edges of the corners of the stones of that casing remaining in the pyramid are not completely straight angles.
● But they are angles overlapping each other by a few millimeters.

History of the pyramid of Khafre

● It is believed that the pyramid was actually opened and then stolen during the first transitional period. that occurred during the era of the nineteenth Egyptian dynasty.
● Where the supervisor at the time of the construction of the temple took a group of stones from the casing of the pyramid in order to build that temple in the city of On, and that was based on a number of orders issued by Ramesses II.
● The ancient Arab historian Ibn Abd al-Salam recorded that the Middle Pyramid was opened again in the year 1372 AD.
● As on the wall of the burial chamber, there were a number of inscriptions written in Arabic, and those inscriptions may date back to the same time.
● This middle pyramid was discovered for the first time during the modern era and that was by Giovanni Battista Belzoni, specifically and precisely on March 2, 1818.
● At that time, the original entrance to the pyramid, which was located on the northern side of it, was found, but the burial coffin was not found intact, as the room was empty and for whom, except for only one coffin, it was open and its cover was already broken and lying on the ground.
