Prince Taz Palace in Al-Khalifa neighborhood in Cairo, which is one of the historical palaces in Egypt and is characterized by its distinctive architectural style.
The palace was built by the Mamluk prince Saif al-Din Taz. It covers an area of more than 8,000 square meters and contains a large courtyard in the middle, surrounded by palace buildings.

Prince Taz Palace
Prince Taz Palace, also known as Dar Taz, is one of the most famous Mamluk palaces in Historic Cairo.
Its owner is Prince Taz, who was a slave owned by the army of Muhammad Qalawun, and rose through the ranks and became one of the senior statesmen during the reign of Salah al-Din ibn Muhammad ibn Qalawun, and helped him rise in the ranks and become Sultan in the year 752 AH (1351 AD).
Prince Taz built this palace in 1352 to celebrate his marriage to the daughter of Sultan Al-Nasir Muhammad, Princess Al-Zahra. However, due to repeated arrests, he did not settle in this palace. After his release from prison, he emigrated to Jerusalem and then Damascus before dying in 763 AH.
Description of Prince Taz Palace:
This old palace, next to a large group of buildings, annexes, and gardens, was built on a rectangular piece of land overlooking a main commercial street, Al-Siyoufiya Street, and another small lane called Darb Al-Saleh. The palace is located near Al-Saliba Street and Sabil Umm Abbas.
Its secluded location gave the palace great comfort and tranquility, and it was completely surrounded by a large stone wall that kept all its courtyards and internal parts out of sight of passers-by.
The most prominent features of Prince Taz Palace:
The palace includes many prominent features, including its main entrance on Al-Faisaliah Street, which is a gate decorated with adjacent decorations, of which only three quarters of that gate are visible today as the street level has risen over the years.
The western entrance leads to the main gate, and is characterized by a simple style of architectural aspects, while the eastern entrance overlooks a narrow alley. This entrance is also distinguished by its simple architectural style.
Detailed and rich decorative motifs appear only in the inner rooms and walls of the palace’s courtyard, which contains four entrances, two of which are original. Entering the palace, you find in the center of the main hall a large basin that was linked to a water well in the past.
Upon entering the palace, you will find the main hall, which follows the traditional classical design of the Middle Ages, where the main door opens on a marble staircase, and on the first floor there are also several rooms that appear to be in good condition, with ceilings showing paintings and decorative elements, while the upper hall did not Only the northeastern wall remains.
