What is the form of God only?

  • The god appears only in the body of a dwarf with a large head and long arms compared to his body, with prominent eyes and a protruding tongue, and with a long and thick tail and curved legs. Despite this ugly appearance, it is not repulsive, as it appears friendly and good-natured.
  • God wears a crown of feathers, and holds a magic knife in his hand to ward off evil spirits, and in some pictures he appears wearing a lion mask.
  • The ancient Egyptians assumed that the god Bess had this hideous creation to scare away evil spirits. Or it resulted from his encounter with these evil spirits and constant friction with them.

Reverence for God Bass in ancient history

  • The god Bes was depicted on mirrors, vases, bowls, and walls, in the belief that his wild beard and frightening appearance prevented evil spirits from infiltrating the house, and it was also believed that he was able to drive snakes and scorpions away from homes.
  • He was also represented in maternity homes to protect the pregnant mother and ensure the safe arrival of her fetus. Pictures of him were also found next to the pregnant goddess Taweret, while she was celebrating childbirth and fertility.
  • Egyptian mothers used to sing an incantation for their children, believing that they would bring the spirit of God with it, only to protect their children from nightmares, and draw his image on the left hand of the children so that the child would have permanent protection.
  • The god Bess had a role in the ancient Egyptian weddings, so the Egyptian brides worshiped him to bless their marriage as the god of fertility and childbirth.
  • The god Bs was also used in some medical practices. Cups were designed in the shape of the head of the god Bs, believing that it would add properties to the liquid inside them that would make it more effective in healing.
  • The god Bess was besides that the god of fun and music in the popular celebrations. After the drawings, he was depicted holding a tambourine.
  • In modern times, the inhabitants of a Spanish island called Ibiza, the Balearics, claim that the Egyptian god Bess is the one who gave this name to their island, when the Phoenician settlers brought him with them to it.

What is the origin of God only?

  • Although many statues of God Bess were found in Egypt, there are many speculations that he was not originally an Egyptian deity.
  • The reason for this belief is that he does not resemble any of the thin and elegant Egyptian deities, and he always appears with a full face, in contrast to the representation of other deities.
  • Despite the presence of his image in many Egyptian homes, no special temple has yet been found for him to worship him like other deities, or the existence of an official worship for him, with the exception of a temple in the Bahariya Oasis in which a picture of him was found.
  • The beliefs of some archaeologists indicate that the deity was originally a Turkish deity, as his images were found in many Turkish archaeological sites.
  • Other scholars also believe that Bess originated in sub-Saharan Africa. This belief is due to the fact that one of the titles of Bess is Lord of Punt, a name that was given to an ancient land on the coast of West Africa.
  • But in the end, God is still an Egyptian deity who has been worshiped and sanctified for a long period of time in Egypt
