History of the establishment of the Tanta Antiquities Museum

The history of the establishment of the museum dates back almost 107 years, as it was established during the reign of Khedive Abbas Helmy II, the ruler of Egypt, and it was the first Egyptian regional museum.
It was also located in Egypt in the heart of the municipality building in the city of Tanta, where it had allocated a hall in the museum to display its holdings, and that was from the House of Egyptian Antiquities and at the same time the House of Arab Antiquities.

The design of this ancient building

The building of that museum consists of approximately 5 floors, which consisted of 3 floors, all of which contain special halls for displaying all artifacts. On the fourth floor, there is a meeting room and a hall for the multi-activity theatre.
Hence, the fifth floor in the museum was administrative offices, and the museum had a number of approximately 8,538 artifacts and they were from prehistoric, Pharaonic eras, Greco-Roman eras, all Coptic, Islamic, and modern eras.
Development work in the building
It was in 1923 that the museum was closed for about 12 years, until it was opened again after that by the Egyptian Ministry of Education.
In 1957, the location of the building was moved to the entrance to a cinema in the municipality, and then it was closed for the second time, and in 1981 this museum was moved to its current location, which is located next to Andalus Park.
