It was this idea that began to establish that museum in 1993, to display the archaeological holdings discovered in the heart of Sohag Governorate, especially those of the tomb of Meritamun.
Also, some of the construction work of the museum faltered, and it had been suspended for a moment for several years, until those works began to resume again, and that was in 2016, as His Excellency the President of the Republic preferred to open it in the shadow of the year 2018.

The Sohag National Museum is also located on that eastern bank of the Nile River, and it was in a suburb in the city of Nasser, and that was in Sohag Governorate. The design of the archaeological museum building took the form of the temple of King Seti I in the city of Abydos, and the house consisted of a basement and two floors.

This archaeological museum included a large collection of artifacts that shed light on a number of topics, including kings and personalities in the family and the social status, in the ancient Egyptian cuisine in the archaeological families.
