Sea Life Hurghada Egypt | The 5 Most Popular Sea Creatures in, Most Common Animals, Most Beautiful Which Animals Live in Deep Sea and Most Common Marine Animals in Hurghada Red Sea.

A gateway to some of the most exciting and varied diving for all levels of divers, Hurghada is a good place to base yourself or hop aboard a liveaboard to explore the best the Red Sea has to offer. It faces a dramatic desert landscape with long natural beaches and has calm, clear waters. This all combined with a year-round warm climate makes it a popular tourist destination for divers and non-divers alike.

Due to its coastal location it has access to some of the best dive sites in the northern Red Sea and Sinai Peninsula (by day boat) and is also one of the main liveaboard departure points for both southern and northern itineraries.

The climate in this area is a subtropical desert climate with warm winters and very hot summers. With pleasant water temperatures most of the year, this adds up to pleasant diving conditions all year round. Although diving season is year-round, some seasons are more popular than others due to the seasons of marine life and changes in water temperature.

Diving in the Southern Red Sea offers you a huge opportunity to pursue your dreams and get some of those coveted ticks on your marine life bucket list. The encounters will go down in your logbook as some of the most memorable experiences of your diving life.

The 5 most popular sea creatures in Hurghada

Here are the top 5 sea creatures to add to your bucket list in Hurghada on the Red Sea:

Oceanic Whitetip Shark (Carcharhinus longimanus)

Oceanic whitetip sharks are large, pelagic sharks found in tropical and subtropical oceans around the world. Classified as dangerous to humans, sighting these majestic creatures gets the adrenaline pumping! Classified as critically endangered due to bycatch in deep sea fisheries, it is truly a privilege to be able to dive with these kings of the ocean. For the best chance of crossing these off your list, make sure you dive at Elfinstone Reef, Brothers Island or Daedalus Reef and further south at Zabargad and Rocky Island.

Red Sea Walkman (Inimicus filamentosus)

In the same family as the stonefish, the Red Sea Walkman is a master of camouflage and a challenge to spot. With venomous spines along their dorsal fin, these creatures aren’t one you’d want to accidentally step on in shallow water, but they make very good hide-and-seek for divers! The best places to discover them are e.g. Fanadir or Abu Galawa, north of Hurghada.

Bottlenose Dolphin (Tursiops truncates) Sea Life Hurghada

Bottlenose dolphins live in temperate and tropical waters worldwide and are known for their “playful” nature. Egypt is a great place to swim with dolphins in the wild, there are many reefs where they like to hang out and these are known locally as ‘Dolphin Houses’ where you can regularly snorkel with them. Divers are sometimes accompanied by dolphins that come very close and swim between them for more than an hour.

Red Sea Dugong (Dugong dugon)

The dugong is a large marine mammal sometimes referred to as the “manatee” due to its diet of sea grass. Listed as critically endangered, the dugong relies on seagrass beds for survival. They are peaceful and calm animals that can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh up to 500 kg. Keep an eye out for them when diving in the bays of the southern Red Sea.

Spanish Dancer (Hexabranchus sanguineus) Sea Life Hurghada

With a size of up to 60 cm, the Spanish dancer is the largest nudibranch and one of the largest sea slugs in the world. Like most nudibranchs, the Spanish dancer is brightly colored and doesn’t blend in well with her surroundings, so she should be easy to spot. The most commonly observed size is between 20 and 30 cm long, it is usually mottled orange-red with several small white dots, but can also be uniformly bright red or yellow with red scattered spots. Although they spend most of their time crawling along the reef surface, when threatened they swim, flapping violently with their external gills and other appendages. Keep an eye out for them on one of our reefs.
