Osiris:

He is essentially a symbol of fertility, which manifests itself in its association with the seasons of planting, greening and recovering sexual desire, and perhaps its famous legend with Seth that ended up by chopping up his body was the basis of the sexual idea when Isis collected the parts of his body but did not find his lost penis devoured by a fish She kneaded it with a right substitute, he and carried Horus from him, while Nephthis his sister (and wife of Seth) gave birth to Anubis, who would become the keeper of the cemeteries to guard the world of his father Osiris.

There are other myths in which Isis attracts Seth (in the form of a beautiful woman), but does not give herself to him but lets him masturbate, then the meeting of Seth and Horus with the Eneade of Heliopolis and has peace between them, but will attract Horus to rape him and at the critical moment Horus receives Seth’s sperm in his hand and his mother cuts off his hand

because it was contaminated, throws it in the river and then she massaged the member of Horus with oil which rises and masturbates, Isis collects the sperms of her son in a vase and she pours them on the lettuce that Seth eats, and Horus’ sperm stays in Seth’s belly, then that sperm comes out of his head in the form of a golden disc. All of these and other myths indicate the prevalence of natural and gay sex in the world of the gods, and the rituals of Osiris are known to require the making of dolls of clay, wheat, and other grains and are celebrated, with lettuce, for spring break.

Legends of the God Osiris:

The legends of Osiris occupy a very important place in Egyptian mythology and represent the popular vision of this mythology.

These legends were represented in the primitive liturgical representations by the priests of Osiris, and these legendary and ritual representations first originated in the temple of Abydos, the holy place of Osiris where his rituals took place.

 The birth of Osiris:

In Thebes, on the first of the five days of El-Nessi’ (the last five days of the year), Ra heard a voice in the temple calling that the great god king and the master of all who enter the light, had been born, it was the birth of Osiris son of Nut and Geb. and Ra recognized Osiris as his heir.

On the third day, Nut gave world to Seth, on the fourth she gave world to Isis, and on the fifth and last day she gave world to Nephtis, these are the 4 children of Geb (the god of the earth) and Nut (the goddess of the sky). Seth’s birth was quite peculiar as he jumped out of his mother Nut’s womb with great vigor as if he exploded.

Sharing of the land between Osiris and Seth:

As soon as his two sons (Osiris and Seth) grew up, the God Geb decided to divide the land (the land of Egypt, of course) between his two sons, and gave the Delta, the Great Green Valley to Osiris, who married his sister Isis.

And he gave Upper Egypt, the southern desert, to his son Seth, who married Nephtis, and Osiris reformed his kingdom, taught the people agriculture, promulgated decisions and laws, and spread to them the arts of the Pharaonic civilization such as writing, the arts and sciences, and gave all things their names, and he ruled by logic and justice not by force and Isis  helped him.

Thus, the Egyptians linked Osiris to all the developments that take place on land throughout the year, affecting their agricultural production. When the flood comes, Osiris represented the new water that reaches the green fields, and although Osiris is with the water of the flood – even with large sources of water – breath and life, Osiris had a special function related to the flood.

It is the water that mixes with it;  the water as a source of fertility, and source of life, is the one that unites  Osiris, which gives life to the  soil, so  Osiris  was closely related to the soil, and if the plant and the earth  dried up, it meant that Osiris  was dead, but his death was not eternal,  for people thought that life  belonged to him every year, hence the well-known signs of Osiris associating himself with  the life of the plant.

His depiction as the “god of green” prevailed in Egypt in all late times, and may also have prevailed since the earliest times, when we first encountered his name in written documents.

Although the God Osiris represented popular culture with distinction, but was not active in the official circulation of legends and beliefs, the problem of associating him with the sun god  was filled with difficulties because he represented the Earth, not the sun, and even his presence in the other world as God came by force,  to a large extent, in the face of the solar doctrines of the god (Ra), whose solar cycle confirmed his presence in  the other world as he orbited the inner sun of the universe and fought darkness and snakes there.

The legend of autumn and the death of Osiris:

In this context, we complete the myth of Osiris, whose urban side reminded us of the two paragraphs mentioned in the legends of Osiris, to complete the characteristics of this great founding myth of fertile and grassy lands, good, evil, urbanization and destruction in Sumerian mythology:

The legend of Seth killing Osiris:

Hatred ate the heart of Seth of his brother, who went to foreign countries to invade, dead on his return. Some legends mention that he prepared a coffin for his brother at a party and invited him, and others mention that they fought in the waters of the Nada region (Nebet) and there are those who see it as the city of Anjati, named after Gedo, which he called “Bu    Osiris”, the current Abou Sir, which he called “the torn act” in reference to Osiris’ death.

There are legends that Seth collaborated with the King of Ethiopia (Aso) and seventy-two conspirators to deport Osiris, then killed him on the day 17 of the month of Hathor (September or October later) of the year 28 of his reign, and he threw the body of Osiris cut into 14 or 16 pieces into the Nile.

The legend of Isis is in search of her husband’s corpse:

Isis and Nephtis searched for his corpse, and there are several myths about the history of his discovery, the first assuming they found it on the banks of Nadya and the second near Memphis or  Iono (Ain Shams)  and buried it there, and the third says that the body was transported by the  Nile   current  to the  delta marshes region.

The fourth novel mentioned the name of Byblos and stated that the body had gone to the Mediterranean Sea (green sea) and to Byblos (Jobail) in Phoenicia, where it was kept there by a blessed tree and contained in its trunk. Isis looked for him and reached Jobail and went to the tree and carried his body and brought him back to the land of Egypt and covered him up and gave him back  life with her magic.

The legends and myths of the pharaohs – a legend of Seth will kill Osiris again:

Seth   found Osiris’ secret location and killed him again and    cut his body into 42 pieces and this symbolizes the tearing of the body of Egypt in (42) rival territories and also symbolizes the number of temples and shrines of Osiris in Egypt, and perhaps the number of judges of the nether world in the courtroom and narrative, and  Seth  scattered    the pieces of Osiris’ body over the territories of Egypt, each piece in  a  territory so that Isis would not find it.

The legend of Isis restores the body of Osiris and gives birth to his son:

Isis picked up the pieces of Osiris’ body and glued them together, then magically returned it to her for a short period of time, then she turned into a female falcon, and she received the grain of Osiris in her body so that she would become pregnant with their son (Horus).

The legend of Osiris who becomes the God of the Dead:

As he left for the nether world, the God of the afterlife became the most important feature of Osiris in ancient Egyptian mythology.

In ancient times, he was considered a god of the moon because he disappeared and then came back to life like the sun, and the sun rose, then his symbolism went beyond these limits and became like a  grain of wheat that is buried in the earth to grow and then produce  the ears of wheat,  and so the controversy of Osiris’ death and life became the controversy of all    life, but when he died and  left  life, he ceded his right to sovereignty over the  country to his son  Horus.

Osiris himself became the king of all the afterlife and the supreme judge in the court of the afterlife and the master of the paradisiacal fields of Eyaro.

The legend of God Osiris death:

In the previous chapters, we talked about the tragedy of Osiris’ death at the hands of his brother (Seth), and how after his murder he distributed his body parts in the territories of Egypt, but Osiris’ wife, Isis, collected his body parts, then she slept   with his body and  ,gave birth to Horus. Osiris became in the world of the invisible and God of the other world, the world of the afterlife.

Osiris symbolized the principle of eternity of periodic life, as embodied in the Nile, wheat, Lower Egypt, and delta, and was also considered (life generated from the earth) and worked to fertilize the sky. He is the lord of plants and cultures (and therefore also of prosperity), and in doing so, goes against Seth, the god of mountains and deserts.

Features of Osiris include the white crown (originally made from the branches of the toothed acacia), the scepter and the whip, and in memory of his pain and suffering, the Egyptians shared his great processions and crowned their heads with crowns of plants made of dome-shaped spines. Just as Dionysius was later called the Greeks, Osiris was also named the “Lord of Wine” with his eternal attachment to life, lunch, and sun care.

The drama of the conflict between Osiris and Seth or Horus and Seth did not offer a value of deep peace, nor was it up to the second maturity that Zoroastrianism later revealed and in its inspiring and intelligent way of doing so.

Osiris is the god of resurrection in the ancient Egyptians, and he is also a member of the court of the dead, which is before the Egyptians and is made up of 42 judges, and each judge represents a specific region in Egypt, and the greatest god is Anubis, learn more information about Osiris below.

• The god Osiris is one of the main holy ninth deities and one of the members of the court of the dead.
• Osiris was a brother of Isis and also Nephthys and Set.
• The god Osiris married Isis, and their father was the god of the earth “Geb” and the god of the sky “Nut”.

God Osiris story

• Ancient Egyptian myths say that Osiris was killed by his brother, “Set”, a symbol of evil and desolation in the past.
• Where Seet celebrated by bringing a distinguished coffin and the party attendees slept in it, but only Osiris fit its size.
• So Seit threw it into the Nile River after cutting it into pieces.
• Isis and her sister grieved for him and cried for him so much, that she began to search for its parts in the Nile River.
• When I found a part of it, the Egyptians built temples in it, such as the Temple of Abydos.
• In the place where the head was found, a temple was erected in the first capital.
• There is a temple for King Seti the First that contains pictures and drawings explaining what Isis did so that she could assemble the parts of her husband.
• It is also said that after the parts were collected, they had intercourse, which resulted in their son, Horus, who avenged his father from his uncle.
• Because of what his son did, Osiris was given eternal life and became a god in the afterlife as well.

The role of Osiris

• The son of Osuis Horus begot 4 sons, they are (Habi, Amsti, Kabhassanov, Domotiv).
• There is a picture in the Book of the Dead of Osiris sitting on the throne of the underworld with his wife Isis and his sister Nephthys behind him, and in front of his four children helping him in counting the dead.
• It was believed in the past that Horus is the one who brings the dead if he succeeds in the test of balance and presents it to Osiris.
• Osiris gives him beautiful clothes to enter heaven with them.
• The balance test aims to know the heart condition of the deceased and whether he will enter Paradise or not, and if the feather is heavier than the heart of the deceased, then this means that the deceased is good and vice versa.
• If the feather is lighter than the heart, the heart is given to a mythical animal called “Ammut”, an animal with the head of a crocodile, the body of a lion and part of a hippopotamus.
• The heart of the dead is devoured by the animal, and thus there is no chance for the soul to return to the body again, but the matter of the deceased ends forever.
